Every school has ‘values’ or ‘poutokomanawa’ which provide an ethical foundation to guide all that we do. Our school functions in a unique community and is 100% focused on increasing achievement and capability in our students so they are in a position to realise opportunity in their lives and the lives of their families.
Waima Schools Values are:
W – Whanaungatanga
Affirming relationships through positive communication. It is about who you belong with and your connections, your parents may have come to this school or maybe lived in this community. Whanau is part of our school community.
A – Aroha
Supporting each other with empathy. We need to respect each other. Care for others. You cannot live without love. Trustworthy and honest. Reliable and to feel special. It brings happiness, includes helping others.
I – Integrity
Being reliable. Doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. Trying your best & using our manners.
M – Manaaki
Having a sense of responsibility for others. This is about looking after each other. It comes with a lot of responsibility and it will show respect. Waima School has a lot of Manaaki! It is sharing respect and looking after our environment and people. He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
A – Ako
Teaching and learning. It is part of life and it is also about being a leader amongst peers. Teaching each other the value in realising our goals through concientious work. If no one is learning, no one will be able to teach. As children we can teach our elders and as elders we can teach our children.
